The Story Behind Bite

The Story Behind Bite

Bite officially launched in August 2018. Here's a look back on how it all began.

Our founder, Lindsay, traveled often for work and was bothered by wasteful plastic toothpaste tubes. When she couldn’t find a plastic-free alternative she loved, she thought: “I’ll make my own”.

Lindsay literally started to make her own all-natural toothpaste tablets.

Research & Development

She took chemistry classes, talked to dentists, and bought a tableting machine. When we say we “started in a living room” we mean it.

Bite becomes real

Lindsay landed on the perfect formula and created what are now Bite’s two flavors: Mint and Mint Charcoal.

Check out this YouTube video made by Lindsay just after making the first bottles.

Our website is live!

Bitetoothpastebits.com went live and we get our first orders from friends.

Then, all of the sudden
Bite went crazy viral

Things got very crazy for a bit.

We rush to find a manufacturer so we could keep up with the non-stop demand.

Thank you

We've grown the team, we're working with great manufacturers, we're building Bite out of Los Angeles, CA, and we couldn't be more thankful for all of you early believers.

Because of you, we've been able to keep over a million plastic toothpaste tubes out of landfills.

Let me preface by saying that I love the product and the idea of sustainable shipping. I’ve also signed up for regular shipments. Having said that, however, I am wondering about the sustainability of the ingredients used to produce the Bites, where do those come from, how are they produced, how sustainable is the mass production of your manufacturing process (now that you’ve moved out of your living room), etc.? Can you share some thoughts around those questions on your website, too? Thank you.

Please consider a version with fluoride. I am in the process of going zero waste, and would like to ditch plastic toothpaste tubes. However, I am not comfortable disregarding the advice of the dental professional community to use a fluoride toothpaste.

My family and I absolutely love your product. Thank you so much for creating this product. Thank you for being conscious about the planet and our future.
I’ve shared your product on social media at least a handful of times and I will continue to promote it.

I really enjoy your bite toothpaste! Do you guys plan on expanding to tablet mouthwash and eco friendly floss (and maybe bamboo toothbrushes) to your subscription service? I dislike having to buy toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, and floss all from different vendors :(
